Established in 1998, China General Technology (Group) Holding Co Ltd, commonly known as Genertec, is a centrally administered State-owned enterprise, which is directed by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC). It was approved by the government as a pilot enterprise of State-owned capital investment in December 2018. 

Over the years, Genertec has been focusing on three pillar businesses - advanced manufacturing and technical services, medical and healthcare, trade and engineering services as it mobilizes a strong push for innovation-driven high-quality business development under the optimal organizational structure.

Genertec had won the A-level in the performance evaluation of central SOEs for 13 consecutive years, and made the Fortune Global 500 list eight times since 2014. 

In the field of advanced manufacturing and technical services, Genertec has taken an active role in serving the national strategy for upgrading the country's manufacturing sector and positioned the development of high-end CNC machine tools as its core business. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the group has produced dozens of national firsts in the field of machine tools, and about 20 workers have been honored as role model of the nation, a testament to the group's dedication and commitment as exemplified by Ma Hengchang Team.

At present, Genertec owns one machine tool engineering research institute and seven machine tool production and manufacturing companies, and has established a machine tool equipment corporation in collaboration with the Tianjin municipal government. It has also led the establishment of a strategic alliance for technological innovation in the numerically-controlled machine tool industry, and built an innovation and R&D center for equipment digitalization.

The group has grown into an industrial leader that boasts the broadest product line, the widest service areas, and the strongest technical capabilities. It is also the biggest provider of high-end core equipment for key industries and areas. It has been vigorously promoting the industrialization of new solvent-based cellulose fiber, making China the second country in the world to master the technology in the industrialization of green cellulose fiber.The group has made major technological breakthroughs in its flame-retardant Lyocell fiber project, with a 10,000-ton production line being successfully launched at one go.

In the field of medical and healthcare services, Genertec actively supports China's Healthy China Initiative and the national strategy to address population aging. It is accelerating the creation of a comprehensive health care service ecosystem that integrates health-focused goals, medical services, and a full-spectrum, all-encompassing service model, in a bid to offer people with a complete range of products and services covering disease prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and elderly care across the entire lifecycle. 

Genertec has built a nationwide pharmaceutical commercial network, boasting a leading position in China in terms of business scale and market share. It is also a leader in the R&D and manufacturing of high-end medical imaging equipment in the country. It also runs over 400 medical institutions in 27 provinces and municipalities in China, with 52,000 beds and more than 35 million annual outpatient and emergency visits. As a centrally-administered medical conglomerate with leading bed capacity, extensive network coverage, and a strong industrial presence, Genertec plays a vital role in ensuring the healthcare security of important industries and key fields, epidemic prevention and control, disaster relief, and the emergency supply of medical products. 

Genertec collectively supports 125 medical institutions offering health check-ups and health management services, covering 25 provinces. It has established over 800 Genertec Clinics, serving more than 10 million people nationwide. Genertec runs 150 health care and elderly care institutions of various types in nearly 30 provinces and municipalities across China, with 25,000 elderly care beds. It actively engages in the reform of training and recuperation institutions for Party and government organs and state-owned enterprises and public institutions, transforming to provide inclusive elderly care services. To date, it has taken on the management of over 60 training and recuperation institutions nationwide, with nearly 10,000 elderly care beds in reserve. 

In the field of trade and engineering services, Genertec is the main channel and a major force for China to import advanced technologies and major equipment. In the early years of the People's Republic of China, it introduced 156 advanced technologies and full equipment, laying a solid foundation for the country’s industrial development.

Over the past 70 years, it has imported and introduced more than $340 billion worth of state-of-the-art technologies and complete sets of equipment for various industries, making important contributions to the country’s industrialization and the localization of major technical equipment.

Genertec's active participation in the Belt and Road Initiative and international industrial capacity cooperation has helped drive Chinese products, technologies, standards, and brands onto the global stage. In 2025, it ranked 78th on ENR's list of the Top 250 International Contractors.

The group has a long history and distinctive strengths in undertaking special and major national construction projects, and has won a total of 88 national-level honors, including the China Construction Engineering Luban Prize and the National Quality Engineering Award.
